First the fourth graders drew convex and concave lines inside triangular columns, then traced with black marker.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXLF4jb1zv_L1vwBdwQkXQMBA7DXAKQ9hxmcrGLsIInKoKcfvImsVi-qCQrZW2Wa7Yh6K-8U31tYgAoAc1X8Naq20_Df72uC1V8Ty6OqnxLUPa4AoXeZWbc6zDHnDyJ9ClE_P5Xy5PG8nN/s1600/DSCN1025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" jsa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXLF4jb1zv_L1vwBdwQkXQMBA7DXAKQ9hxmcrGLsIInKoKcfvImsVi-qCQrZW2Wa7Yh6K-8U31tYgAoAc1X8Naq20_Df72uC1V8Ty6OqnxLUPa4AoXeZWbc6zDHnDyJ9ClE_P5Xy5PG8nN/s320/DSCN1025.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
We then talked about value and the lightness and darkness of a color and how to achieve that using a colored pencil. They then chose two colored pencils and began adding value to the convex and concave sections.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEXQn1YetpZJS6vI59vMyQezHPUX7ulSlhRLsrwGnpcNB4DMWqCxWBrhURXKDqFjQoK8re2_A2ynmYzkRMsXPSU9GQBI_8dkhvdXidwslGnS_yaxXuWCc4lwdnEdcF24ccuHLDl6s4tcNH/s1600/DSCN1026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" jsa="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEXQn1YetpZJS6vI59vMyQezHPUX7ulSlhRLsrwGnpcNB4DMWqCxWBrhURXKDqFjQoK8re2_A2ynmYzkRMsXPSU9GQBI_8dkhvdXidwslGnS_yaxXuWCc4lwdnEdcF24ccuHLDl6s4tcNH/s320/DSCN1026.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Finally they chose a marker of the same colors and used long convex or concave lines to fill in the areas between the colored pencils.<br />

This was the studio of Cedar Rapids native Grant Wood. The studio itself was also a home to Grant, his mother, and his sister. It orginally was a hayloft above a carriage-house at a mortuary. Friends of his owned the mortuary and offered for Grant Wood to live in the hayloft for free. He made the space his own and created many new/unique ways to maximize the space of the hayloft. He painted his most famous painting, American Gothic, while living there.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCdmvXXFkoKVZa6epu9HBQew5RTLRWDIguQ2PRH-noBtsn-P8gRt1ENboPymNFQBJWwnheCbzVVYjfAjza8mtYcoVZeucScO87R48sT8_OeV3ZvMju_6eTfbUdjPQ72-7YwVIFhuX_9f6A/s1600/IMG_0625.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525315606211314690" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 214px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCdmvXXFkoKVZa6epu9HBQew5RTLRWDIguQ2PRH-noBtsn-P8gRt1ENboPymNFQBJWwnheCbzVVYjfAjza8mtYcoVZeucScO87R48sT8_OeV3ZvMju_6eTfbUdjPQ72-7YwVIFhuX_9f6A/s320/IMG_0625.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj462lVyt_xgaq_e5223w3LqRdRfRVndV9BfICqsbtlcEjEwB-Zw3gK7EPPmS8FkOgYy8q5Ww12TxXQhWRJCDBBOfLV6hjRHFVVE67RBWvLzxe7_FQ3Cczt53Z5wYFOVEFNcZg8itgpebOL/s1600/IMG_0622.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525315598223060194" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 214px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj462lVyt_xgaq_e5223w3LqRdRfRVndV9BfICqsbtlcEjEwB-Zw3gK7EPPmS8FkOgYy8q5Ww12TxXQhWRJCDBBOfLV6hjRHFVVE67RBWvLzxe7_FQ3Cczt53Z5wYFOVEFNcZg8itgpebOL/s320/IMG_0622.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj38oiIVXBse6eHLsMO-urqp5tGOrqdXSw11soQ9QBU7IeHFb7nleH09XQ0gr_iNB0goVv2eUUPWx5jY_gxAjetOnO_e_cJdfmgm2giF037QPLUGeHR6MJ2pkHEJYrY8Z38zKGWRiDQo4or/s1600/IMG_0620.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525315592437779666" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 214px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj38oiIVXBse6eHLsMO-urqp5tGOrqdXSw11soQ9QBU7IeHFb7nleH09XQ0gr_iNB0goVv2eUUPWx5jY_gxAjetOnO_e_cJdfmgm2giF037QPLUGeHR6MJ2pkHEJYrY8Z38zKGWRiDQo4or/s320/IMG_0620.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx7YujghTvx_1Y2tx_7RHxCRPFc-ZEO48wq4ecW6EFRY0dqWYvCO-xCaO6gWCF49PGehpq3HO9y08KGssLx6MhBca9qemNjecKkuGW4k1R2A6ayiuZm83f1iL6cXQP8dgIz3B11zFIRCzi/s1600/IMG_0619.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525315581633733314" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 214px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx7YujghTvx_1Y2tx_7RHxCRPFc-ZEO48wq4ecW6EFRY0dqWYvCO-xCaO6gWCF49PGehpq3HO9y08KGssLx6MhBca9qemNjecKkuGW4k1R2A6ayiuZm83f1iL6cXQP8dgIz3B11zFIRCzi/s320/IMG_0619.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmVNzL_oj9_p8yBC9VjCarcustYk0gGW_1WYwjIXZ6eNJpne95i-be5L9lqy8dfPFaj_IXOQVnwp8v_qMYFb_C55vGzOzsKJQCqVHEXvG6WqDbkoJU-Ps5OzrjZhRdZ_pn2-J7ltk_XkQa/s1600/IMG_0613.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5525315578771707202" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 214px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmVNzL_oj9_p8yBC9VjCarcustYk0gGW_1WYwjIXZ6eNJpne95i-be5L9lqy8dfPFaj_IXOQVnwp8v_qMYFb_C55vGzOzsKJQCqVHEXvG6WqDbkoJU-Ps5OzrjZhRdZ_pn2-J7ltk_XkQa/s320/IMG_0613.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div></div></div></div></div></div>Ryan Fisherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07305322845110995183noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7792265180532292382.post-62631916188855158062010-01-11T12:08:00.000-08:002010-01-11T12:44:02.029-08:00Foam SculpturesThe Kindergarteners first talked about what a sculpture is, how it is made, and what it could be made out of. They then worked with some foam and tape to create their own sculptures.<br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5425585194067425218" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqDr2AYGC3S2P8A5kDXvkK5-WyjSZhJcE9iVkQCF4yEzH_UV3qJDEfoVl1w5J2YTFc6WExGH1jr9WBlTJoCuzpFV0y_XYHsmFJu1LZt1dQtaVK7VWs2ipvFaplSEN2Qb4XGkj9lnZSPNMm/s320/DSCN0781.JPG" border="0" /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-3xCj7ZRT1HX5k_lHm_uZiEg2zFe6j885Qvsqo0KJ9anptsmavLbS3_cIo-l02z6ylKPny9KF2kQ9WxNuwjaMR6mpcE9ee87YFv260Br1PzoF4KevKmq3pj80KsLD2Xu5cM1znWl4tdL8/s1600-h/DSCN0779.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5425585186907607826" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-3xCj7ZRT1HX5k_lHm_uZiEg2zFe6j885Qvsqo0KJ9anptsmavLbS3_cIo-l02z6ylKPny9KF2kQ9WxNuwjaMR6mpcE9ee87YFv260Br1PzoF4KevKmq3pj80KsLD2Xu5cM1znWl4tdL8/s320/DSCN0779.JPG" border="0" /></a><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5425585180299767778" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgECgWoI_MUTF4qN9MxhYjrKGBCnhgwJtmmwQVzj_ilWcgM5zsvipbwvI9WEzc3RoIHIXK8kjtXNOtdVSuFtkqs1uOKFUo_YO8cnAzAbx2vmVXjcRFiP_HEUvt9zoakw0huGeQVd3z7Yj7i/s320/DSCN0778.JPG" border="0" /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5425585165016785330" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRON2hfa1xSSrgsENlKsQWrlzTew88gCHXbKpXoSNNX63E9YXDXypbAw3ZgAPbYozciPKAeM2meTz6L94kI7f6KgF6si8vRoZzfan9L9FqHcyCTyVUARK3Beq1jwi4VevYAB9IwuVYDU8z/s320/DSCN0776.JPG" border="0" />Ryan Fisherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07305322845110995183noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7792265180532292382.post-83630744322424053252010-01-07T09:00:00.000-08:002010-01-07T12:51:30.693-08:00Lobster BuoysIn conjunction with their Social Studies curriculum and a unit on the Northeast, the fourth graders make and paint loster buoys. The kindergarteners first talked big, medium, and small. We talked about things in the room that were big, medium, and small, which really helped them to group things in three's sort into: big, medium, and small. </div><div></div><div>They began by tracing the top of a yogurt container six times on construction paper, they then cut out the circles and glued them on their blue paper. The next step was to turn the yogurt container around and trace six more medium circles, then they cut them out and glued them on top of the large circle. The final step was for the kindergarteners to draw six more small circles, without tracing, and then cut them out and glue them on top of the big and medium circles.</div></div></div></div></div>Ryan Fisherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07305322845110995183noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7792265180532292382.post-1112546145906156732009-11-04T15:48:00.000-08:002009-11-20T07:56:57.343-08:00Native American SheltersIn conjunction with the fifth-grade teachers and the Social Studies curriculum, the fifth-graders worked in the Art room in groups to build a Native American shelter for a particular tribe.<br /><br />The students first were asked to complete a drawing of their tribes' particular shelter, using colored pencil.<br /><br />The next step was for each group to work cooperatively to build one or two of their tribes' shelters. The students came up with the plan for how they were going to build the shelter and what materials they were going to use.<br /><br />This was a great project to follow the Haunted House project and really helped to reinforce/refine the building skills that they acquired during the Previous project.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMHiYxFtkmnDj8bFciQZCFg3YeyQVrDiDPEwtboWmyrFXYpidK0uymNmUqdII48gwaluesTz2bAOAlry7XCcTkjeZHAauorzoyRVOaHUQ8FEST4oGZZk5x6TC3JTl87hnqgySmnJXjI2j_/s1600/DSCN0645.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5406215111783650434" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMHiYxFtkmnDj8bFciQZCFg3YeyQVrDiDPEwtboWmyrFXYpidK0uymNmUqdII48gwaluesTz2bAOAlry7XCcTkjeZHAauorzoyRVOaHUQ8FEST4oGZZk5x6TC3JTl87hnqgySmnJXjI2j_/s320/DSCN0645.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx4AifZNODRFux4OHlAUSI0yYyJZFEIJbMEjbEplFcglobUeiYMGxmyrgvh3EKulvS6us8LOFfQ9gEaMSis0tCYdFD0yy8387Vw8NJ-TAo8q-CtcOv-zIFmYJ8Zse9O-2T4KJvsXyA06UJ/s1600/DSCN0644.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5406215108550528386" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx4AifZNODRFux4OHlAUSI0yYyJZFEIJbMEjbEplFcglobUeiYMGxmyrgvh3EKulvS6us8LOFfQ9gEaMSis0tCYdFD0yy8387Vw8NJ-TAo8q-CtcOv-zIFmYJ8Zse9O-2T4KJvsXyA06UJ/s320/DSCN0644.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyAEI4-fLbIaqKGPHkntwClbbvBj_Ib1dD9KmOkzARM19Q_bKltgpeGewavmlh_-NXtC5jE1984WyzDE-53_rIQrN_1Gg2LcW6HFNrHC7TJE0qBoVdTLHcb37PjJ3_rrGff_O0892z-ZpG/s1600/DSCN0650.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5406214758105125538" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyAEI4-fLbIaqKGPHkntwClbbvBj_Ib1dD9KmOkzARM19Q_bKltgpeGewavmlh_-NXtC5jE1984WyzDE-53_rIQrN_1Gg2LcW6HFNrHC7TJE0qBoVdTLHcb37PjJ3_rrGff_O0892z-ZpG/s320/DSCN0650.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaxfalN7YVouLy9h-6e8hspco7tW0SsnaSsdEFiLgUKcYCWVA7F6OOLq_-PmMn4VMtGPSqiopjDKqxJqFIxXi-8jo4X3kB4jQ2kY9MZapmZch4xbTT9R7XBIwUMJhuhaCt9LW-GFbaUttz/s1600/DSCN0649.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5406214753770090722" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaxfalN7YVouLy9h-6e8hspco7tW0SsnaSsdEFiLgUKcYCWVA7F6OOLq_-PmMn4VMtGPSqiopjDKqxJqFIxXi-8jo4X3kB4jQ2kY9MZapmZch4xbTT9R7XBIwUMJhuhaCt9LW-GFbaUttz/s320/DSCN0649.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLRfN5F-2YPkgRrfC8j5KYbPl3L3fnlJowISKk103UyN9oxtUGTXxRk2jmOa54N98HHlAnMF04O1Sj-zGlDHmCf5QvpamNumVUYGwC3nnWMAVF8qk_GtDo7lLUi0WkbhNJ0T_pyxtIwfXP/s1600/DSCN0648.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5406214744327526882" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLRfN5F-2YPkgRrfC8j5KYbPl3L3fnlJowISKk103UyN9oxtUGTXxRk2jmOa54N98HHlAnMF04O1Sj-zGlDHmCf5QvpamNumVUYGwC3nnWMAVF8qk_GtDo7lLUi0WkbhNJ0T_pyxtIwfXP/s320/DSCN0648.JPG" border="0" /></a></div></div></div></div>Ryan Fisherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07305322845110995183noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7792265180532292382.post-46426286513338753422009-11-01T07:46:00.001-08:002009-11-01T08:06:31.418-08:00Hand Henna<div style="text-align: center;"><!--StartFragment--> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;">The fourth graders first learned about what Henna was, where it is done, when it is done, how it is done, and why it is done. The students really enjoy looking at their own self-portrait and that of their friends'.</div><div><br /><div></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395852650135974642" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfcMX9oKiVQmBVF8huj-ypa5kNqcY_V0NkUtMzlKg9cyH_leqUPhSYbA3-a33L3eun0g6pSJpjh3MxFs3IsYfZE485d3GTRaCZeYmaJ1nvyjFFn6CNrbOwrSYRdZ0K55c_JXWfmxEO_yeR/s320/DSCN0571.JPG" border="0" /><br /><div></div></div>Ryan Fisherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07305322845110995183noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7792265180532292382.post-61016282787479786752009-10-22T19:12:00.000-07:002009-10-23T11:19:12.589-07:00Grant Wood Abstract MosaicThe fifth graders began this project by discussing Abstract art, how it is made, what the meaning of it is, and why people like it. Each student was given a small 1.5" x 1.5" square cut from a painting by the artist Grant Wood. The small squares were filled with areas of shapes and colors and the original painting was not recognizable. The students were then given a 3" x 3" square of drawing paper, then we discussed how to enlarge the small square on to the larger square.<br /><div><br /><div>The students then worked with pencil and colored pencil to draw the smaller square onto the bigger square. When all of the students had finished their 3" square, the class worked together to assemble the 3" squares into a larger 12" x 18" mosaic. The final mosaics were: <i>Fall Plowing</i>, <i>The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere</i>, and <i>Stone City</i> all by Grant Wood.</div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9mKnQo-mgCbtMH6Ecq_e_-xkX7t2uAW3FjW_B_2JYm5vBn1bOKYS8vfMq3iboZ2Iip1na1DMp1vy4yYqhb_lmFCyk3wkRlrD-ZzMSvHPa4hmZYXb3o-ClW8sW8ND8bD8K6DbdYJo5fFVV/s1600-h/Fall+Plowing.JPG"></a></div><p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9mKnQo-mgCbtMH6Ecq_e_-xkX7t2uAW3FjW_B_2JYm5vBn1bOKYS8vfMq3iboZ2Iip1na1DMp1vy4yYqhb_lmFCyk3wkRlrD-ZzMSvHPa4hmZYXb3o-ClW8sW8ND8bD8K6DbdYJo5fFVV/s1600-h/Fall+Plowing.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395791001343905954" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9mKnQo-mgCbtMH6Ecq_e_-xkX7t2uAW3FjW_B_2JYm5vBn1bOKYS8vfMq3iboZ2Iip1na1DMp1vy4yYqhb_lmFCyk3wkRlrD-ZzMSvHPa4hmZYXb3o-ClW8sW8ND8bD8K6DbdYJo5fFVV/s320/Fall+Plowing.JPG" border="0" /></a></p><div></div><p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj48Op0enwOg6yt7ln03vU3UH_-mkjvX-xCJnC6GwKGVdFgyp583lLZYxA11f1Id3QRv17YB_n9Jl6b-Yh9BAEIAlSapzRHH04vMORVsuW2sKIpmmr1S9MLIqj0vc6F9BQYUzNR4Cjv5cZ_/s1600-h/Midnight+Ride+of+Paul+Revere.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395791252177764578" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj48Op0enwOg6yt7ln03vU3UH_-mkjvX-xCJnC6GwKGVdFgyp583lLZYxA11f1Id3QRv17YB_n9Jl6b-Yh9BAEIAlSapzRHH04vMORVsuW2sKIpmmr1S9MLIqj0vc6F9BQYUzNR4Cjv5cZ_/s320/Midnight+Ride+of+Paul+Revere.JPG" border="0" /></a></p><div></div><p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_2Svo-Ap96Uf9ZX2sqvwgxgQZiqtFb7SmFm1ZJyFc96W8LUm5jresshkmqkPuLniu2PygxqayZxtsoo5JrNJ_9rzb9CGhw2r5USBwnP56fLuRWrBhxTDxOWBc5MUBKMPm_czQKLdMDno1/s1600-h/Stone+City.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395791475372980370" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_2Svo-Ap96Uf9ZX2sqvwgxgQZiqtFb7SmFm1ZJyFc96W8LUm5jresshkmqkPuLniu2PygxqayZxtsoo5JrNJ_9rzb9CGhw2r5USBwnP56fLuRWrBhxTDxOWBc5MUBKMPm_czQKLdMDno1/s320/Stone+City.JPG" border="0" /></a></p></div>Ryan Fisherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07305322845110995183noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7792265180532292382.post-61282839442943041462009-10-22T18:51:00.000-07:002011-04-19T08:42:55.037-07:00Drawing Portfolio<p align="left">The second graders have been doing various types of drawings and assembling a portfolio of their work. The first type of drawing the did was of a single item placed on their table, drawn using pencil. They worked on the drawing for six to seven minutes and drew four separate items during the class. We talked about texture, shape, and line, both before starting and during the drawing process.<br /><br /></p>The second drawings they completed were gesture drawings of a peer, who was in an "action pose" in front of the room. For these drawings the students used crayons and drew each person for two to three minutes. Before and during the drawing process we talked about the shapes of the arms, legs, and torso and how to draw them to show what the person was doing.<br /><br /><br /><p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip8rcVt6JcBT0Rd5p_LwViJTDNKqUwtyGV21UCVAmA9GXlCGo795TjHtszkKBwjW7qgp7N-v67CSY0SKa_dClE7G6lwc1_VwB4QJ2iJQN3kZYsrVo1GT1U8xcTQ9XHxHUUWiqcj9enrdEY/s1600/DSCN0531.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5597318210550946322" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip8rcVt6JcBT0Rd5p_LwViJTDNKqUwtyGV21UCVAmA9GXlCGo795TjHtszkKBwjW7qgp7N-v67CSY0SKa_dClE7G6lwc1_VwB4QJ2iJQN3kZYsrVo1GT1U8xcTQ9XHxHUUWiqcj9enrdEY/s320/DSCN0531.JPG" border="0" /></a></p>The third drawings the second graders completed were contour line drawings of their shows. They drew this with markers and drew three different views of their shoes, spending around seven to eight minutes on each drawing. We talked about really looking at your shoe, focusing on using line to create the shapes of the shoe, and including all of the details that were on their shoe.<br /><br />The fourth and final drawing in their drawing portfolio was a still-life drawing that Mr. Fisher had set-up in the room. We talked about drawing the item that was closest to you first, then the item that was next closest, and filling in the space from there. The students did two drawings using pencil, spending around fifteen minutes on each drawing, then outlining the one of their choice with black markers.<br /><br /><br /><p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo9wE5SlS2wiNxNc52axQQmEjC-a07Fi0IfQq0fjIO2qz-B9B6DadDsofn-KjlqrS42V48lCkBxJqWYhv1qWr4vgEOug_E4R19ai5SgqQ9sfPFimp2HGi4CrIAv2GFWSnALhJcD-tJ_MBD/s1600/DSCN0562.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5597318230007624898" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo9wE5SlS2wiNxNc52axQQmEjC-a07Fi0IfQq0fjIO2qz-B9B6DadDsofn-KjlqrS42V48lCkBxJqWYhv1qWr4vgEOug_E4R19ai5SgqQ9sfPFimp2HGi4CrIAv2GFWSnALhJcD-tJ_MBD/s320/DSCN0562.JPG" border="0" /></a></p><br /><p align="center"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5597318213072857810" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYhtpZe-iQnyVl_mmb1s5j08HkCK68hK-RNu6PlcCfBDFLe5meDcEzNlTMgTe6L2TjK8ljIDazU5wFDpHDFJYkUyHpEKxnATSsNGuptCWc0ZMHh-hkBpOsHQzQh8tJhqhUHQCdj5qV0-SF/s320/DSCN0559.JPG" border="0" /></p>The second graders really enjoyed all of the drawings and each student seemed to have a favorite style of the four!Ryan Fisherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07305322845110995183noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7792265180532292382.post-82903493994954380922009-10-21T17:07:00.000-07:002009-10-23T10:56:26.046-07:00Haunted Houses<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0sXFdVSJkKGQW2O8rJSRQ36flK1lDRYDcCv_H-x3A2g8elk7tGalY4T5v7ZdJxXZ8mqrI_qvM6tSfY9niZxNiQMN8fUOx5t5aSSCFWeez7Ab92bSiqJSGJzRhZx_UvkLW9DPxUiG5MbiP/s1600-h/DSCN0555.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395854548419978770" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0sXFdVSJkKGQW2O8rJSRQ36flK1lDRYDcCv_H-x3A2g8elk7tGalY4T5v7ZdJxXZ8mqrI_qvM6tSfY9niZxNiQMN8fUOx5t5aSSCFWeez7Ab92bSiqJSGJzRhZx_UvkLW9DPxUiG5MbiP/s320/DSCN0555.JPG" border="0" /></a>The fifth graders have been building haunted houses out of cardboard. To start the project we first looked at pictures of Victorian-style houses and discussed the architectural features, which make those houses unique.<br /><br /><div><div><div><div>The students then worked to draw a plan of their house, drawing a view of all four sides of their house. They began building the house by starting with a six-inch square cardboard base. The next step was for the students to begin building using cardboard, toothpicks, and popsicle sticks. </div><br /><div></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395853337707865042" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO7w8Kx5leoWFOTu1zD5D_g1GPYC5R_bodEfT0PUq5_ij8bGr2bFSoIz8HBsnsSP8pWiAlOasC5X36IFhFNuHhgk023iqvT0SXkpzrjwR_lR85a-hlD1dtVmIwufuT2Z1hLAFZOBmusOlA/s320/DSCN0546.JPG" border="0" /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5395853334751894338" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJUDzCdqY0TJEohszLQ_HD9YQD_XSsnx-aiJYoV0DpSfuJ_oygwkHDr-sqlvdXqfmz9JqIb4sPBLyonNqso0lJTyhsYzU0XaJ9sRoIcrL-KTLubVML-xG4mL7ZUAwLnY7tiryD78ymGhpg/s320/DSCN0545.JPG" border="0" /></div></div></div>Ryan Fisherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07305322845110995183noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7792265180532292382.post-31929063312799955032009-10-18T16:51:00.000-07:002009-10-18T16:57:05.541-07:00November Newsletter ArticleHere is the article that is in the November newsletter:<div><br /></div><div><!--StartFragment--> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times">Technology in the Art Room</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times">In the Art room this year students have been experiencing art through many various modes of technology. Be sure to ask your child questions beyond just “what is it.” Asking questions like “how the art was made”, “what was talked about in class”, and “what they are most proud of,“ will give you a more in-depth answer and more of an insight to what has been going on in the art room.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times">Third Grade Clay</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Times">Once again all third graders in the Cedar Rapids Community School District will be participating in “Third Grade Clay.” Each third grader in the entire district works to make one clay piece of art.
